Service Hours are part of the Rank Requirements from Tenderfoot thru Star.  Scouts need to get approval from their scoutmaster before volunteering for service projects outside of the troop calendar to confirm their effort will count toward the rank advancement requirement they are working on.

Ascencia Glendale - Provides housing and meals to assist people out of homelessness, and they welcome volunteers to support their services.  Visit their volunteer webpage to learn about their guest chef (to feed 45 people breakfast, lunch, dinner daily), serve dessert (for 45 people), hygiene kits, and blanket (new only) programs.  Contact their volunteer office by email or call 818-246-7900 x.3 to arrange your service.  After making arrangements with the volunteer office, here is the Guest Chef sign-up link.  Mrs. Bradford (T288 committee member) has some general info about meal expectations, you can reach out to her if interested.

Children's Hunger Fund - Provides food for hungry kids around the world, volunteers of all ages are welcome at the distribution center in Sylmar.  Volunteers tasks may include: packing Food Packs, bagging bulk beans and pasta, filling Meal Pans, sorting donations or prepping containers for shipment.  Visit their volunteer webpage to sign up.  Project Food Pak is another option where you can purchase food from the shopping list provided to fill as many boxes as you want, and then deliver to the distribution center.

Eagle Scout Service Projects - Support your fellow scouts in Troop 288 by volunteering for their projects.

Friends of the Library - Are people that share a passion for reading, a love for their community, and a strong appreciation of libraries.  They are self-supporting non-profit groups that accept book donations throughout the year, and then they have book sales occasionally to raise money for programs and other needs of the library.  Volunteers are welcome to help set up and clean up at book sales.  Check their websites for upcoming book sales, and contact them directly about volunteering.  Friends of La Crescenta Library, Friends of La Canada Library

Legion Hall Clean Up - We can clean the parking lot and around the building as needed.  Our chartered organization appreciates our help.

Memorial Day Ceremony - Our troop supports the annual ceremony at Two Strike Park hosted by our Chartered Organization, American Legion Post 288.  We deliver and set up chairs, hand out programs, participate in flag ceremony, attend ceremony, clean up and return chairs to the Legion Hall.

Operation Gratitude - Our troop usually volunteers at their facility annually on a care package assembly day, check our activity calendar.  There are additional ways to volunteer with this organization including: making Care Kits, writing Letters of Gratitude and making Paracord Survival Bracelets that can be mailed to the facility.

Pasadena Humane Society - Are you an animal lover?  You can make at-home craft projects for animals at the shelter.  Contact their Volunteer Services office to arrange a time to deliver your items and get community service hours signed off.  Be sure to ask for a service hours acknowledgment form when you deliver your donation, so you can show it to your Scoutmaster.

Scouting For Food - Our troop supports the annual food drive hosted by the Verdugo Hills Council every November.  We set up a food collection site at the Legion Hall where local Cub Scouts drop off food collected from the community, we sort the food and deliver to local food shelters.

Sue's Garden - A food pantry at the Community Life Church in La Crescenta.  Each November, the Scouting For Food project delivers much needed food to this and other food pantries.  Throughout the year, they run out of certain types of non-perishable foods and hygiene items faster than others.  Scouts can collect these items and bring them to the church anytime, see the wishlist below.  They welcome fruit and veggies from home trees too.  Contact their volunteer offie by email to arrange your service.
